You vs You: The First Step Towards Change is Self-Awareness
Once you start working on self-development, four endowments take your attention:
-
-
-
- self-awareness
- conscience
- independent will and
- creative imagination
-
-
(S. Covey).
Covey also says that it gives us the ultimate human freedom – the power to choose, to respond, to change. This got me thinking about how incredible human beings are. Yet many of us know very little about a key indicator of success – ‘Awareness’.
When you feel you are living on autopilot. Stop! If you are wondering why, I want to challenge you with two questions:
- Are you really aware of your habits, routines, impulses and reactions?
- How these 3 elements – You, The Environment and The Enemy – impact your life?
Everyone has the desire to improve, but this is only half of the story. We need to take action. Identifying what triggers us and noticing an emotional shift in our body helps us learn about our motivation, fears, likes and dislikes, and how to acknowledge and understand the root cause of this.
The best investment is in ourselves and to win this new game, we just need to understand a mechanism to change our life. Self-awareness is our self-controlling mechanism. It’s a tool for positive health and most importantly, an instrument to change our beliefs.
Here’s a trick question:
If you have a chance to read a book about yourself, what will the story be? Are you reading the story of a hero or a victim?
Deep down, in our heart, we all have a dream of how we want our life to be.
