NZ’s top academic awards include 3 Chinese students
The Ministry of Education has just released the names of New Zealand Top Scholar Awards 2016. A ceremony to this effect was held at the Parliament today. Christopher Mayo, who graduated from Hamilton Boys’ High School, received the top prize – Prime Minister’s Award for Academic Excellence from the Minister of Education, Nikki Kaye. Among the top 10 scholarship recipients, three are of Chinese origin.
Only those who have achieved the highest scores in the recent New Zealand Scholarship exam will be awarded the highest academic scholarships. Based on an assessment of student achievements in 2016, a total 46 scholarships were awarded today, including the Prime Minister’s Award (1), the First-class Scholarships (10) and the Top Subject Scholar Awards (35).
In this year’s winners’ list, three students of Chinese origin performed excellently. They are Kevin Shen, Yan (Tina) Zhang and Yibin (Ben) Zhang.
